Visteon Focuses on LCD & OLED display Integration at CES 2025

Hi, Chris Chinnock here for Insight Media. I’m in the Visteon suite at CES 2025.

Visteon is a Tier 1 display supplier primarily focused on mid- to lower-tier markets. Their strategy emphasizes mass production rather than high-end products like advanced HUDs. At this point, they have no active HUD development programs—only some R&D while they watch and wait. Their philosophy is that greater market penetration is needed before mass adoption makes HUDs viable.

Regarding panoramic HUDs—the displays integrated into the black band of the windshield—Visteon has the technical capability to produce them. However, they are cautious about intellectual property concerns, particularly BMW’s patents. Many companies have showcased similar concepts at CES, so it remains unclear how these IP issues will be resolved.

As a display supplier, Visteon’s goal is to add value. They purchase base LCD or OLED panels and then develop their own backlights, driver systems, and optical bonding technologies. That’s what they’re showcasing here.

Key Demonstrations:

  • Wide Pillar-to-Pillar Curved Display: An optical bonded solution that could use panels from multiple suppliers. Visteon adds custom backlights, drivers, and interfaces.
  • Privacy Display: A solution that can switch privacy mode on and off via a rear switch.
  • Dual Display Setup: Upper and lower displays, with the lower featuring a wood-grain finish and cold-formed cover glass, optically bonded for a unique look.
  • Concave OLED Panel: Thin design with optical bonding.
  • Customer Displays: Examples include Maserati and Porsche. The Porsche display was Visteon’s first OLED in production. They report no concerns about burn-in, having worked with manufacturers to mitigate the issue.
  • Ford Explorer Display: A 27-inch, 32:9 aspect ratio panel in production for the China market.
  • Motorcycle Displays: Visteon also produces displays for motorcycles, which was a surprise.
  • Full Pillar-to-Pillar Demo: Includes a 27-inch optically bonded panel and a smaller 12.x-inch display, both in production.

Finally, Visteon is showing a HUD demonstrator they’ve manufactured for years, but they are not actively developing HUDs or microLED solutions—both remain in the “watch and wait” category. Another demo includes a fold-up rear-seat LCD.

That’s the story from Visteon at CES 2025.
