Tianma Shows Vast Array of Automotive Displays at CES 2025

Hi, Chris Chinnock here for Insight Media. We’re at CES 2025 in the Tianma suite, where they’re showcasing a range of automotive display technologies. Let’s take a closer look.

3D Heads-Up Display (HUD)

The first demo is a 3D HUD—an LCD panel with a parallax barrier and integrated eye tracking. Eye tracking adjusts the interpupillary distance for left and right eye images. A button allows users to change the perceived depth, moving icons forward or backward in 3D space.

However, the eyebox is very narrow. Slight head movements cause severe ghosting. Ideally, the image should fade to black outside the eyebox rather than ghosting—something for future design improvements.

This HUD uses an 8-inch microLED panel, delivering high brightness suitable for standard HUD applications or panoramic display setups.

Cockpit Demonstrator

Next, Tianma showed a black band panoramic display—three 12.3-inch modules reflecting off a black band. While some call this a HUD, it’s not; it’s a multi-display setup.

They also demonstrated a 3D eye-tracked display that switches between 2D and 3D with a 30° field of view. It offers a larger eyebox than the HUD but suffers from blurriness during motion demos, especially when pushing content out of the screen (positive parallax). Negative parallax (keeping images behind the screen) works better.

InvisiView Displays

Tianma’s InvisiView technology integrates displays into wood-grain panels, including armrests. Earlier versions had only 50% transmissivity, requiring strong backlights and higher power consumption. The latest version improves transmissivity to 80%, making it more practical and visually appealing.

Smart Module

A highlight is the smart module, which looks production-ready. It features:

  • A volume control knob with embedded touch sensors (no mechanical shaft).
  • NFC sensor integrated into the bezel.
  • Ambient light sensor for automatic gamma adjustment—important for HDR displays in varying lighting conditions.

Wide Refresh Rate Display

Tianma showcased a 15.6-inch LTPS display with a wide refresh range (40–120 Hz), optimized for automotive-grade performance.

High-Transmittance & Quantum Dot Displays

Other demos included:

  • High-transmittance LCD for better brightness.
  • Quantum Dot miniLED display with wide color gamut and high contrast.

Curved OLED Displays

Tianma partnered with Corning to develop dual 13-inch curved OLED panels with two different curvature profiles. Special bonding techniques ensure durability and optical quality.

Summary
Tianma’s CES 2025 showcase highlights innovations in HUDs, panoramic displays, integrated smart modules, and advanced OLED/QD technologies—all tailored for automotive applications.
