Product Innovation

• New DLP Chip: Texas Instruments introduced a 0.39-inch DMD device with native 1080p resolution.
• Shrunken Form Factor: The pixel size has been reduced from 7.6 micrometers to 4.5 micrometers, allowing for higher resolution in a much smaller package.
• Thermal Management: To handle the 1,000-lumen output (significantly higher than the standard 100-200 lumens), the projector uses advanced heat-sinking and is designed to be tucked into a vehicle’s headliner.

Applications & Availability

• Use Cases: The technology is being utilized for head-up displays (HUDs), rear-seat entertainment, and window projection (including holographic glass displays).  
• Market Reach: Texas Instruments is currently shipping approximately half a million units, primarily in the Asian market (specifically for two Huawei models), with plans to expand into Europe.
• Future Tech: Jorge mentioned that the new 4.5-micrometer pixel will enable low-cost entry-level HUDs and potential 4K resolution through XPR pixel-shifting technology.
