I’m in the Texas Instruments suite at CES 2025, where they are showcasing several automotive display innovations beyond CY Vision’s AR HUD (covered in a separate video). Here are the highlights:
1. Window Projection
- Demonstrated using an Appotronics projector (see separate video for details).
- Projects information onto the side window, useful for:
- Displaying Uber driver details.
- Showing safety alerts when backing up.
- Other informational or entertainment applications.
- This concept has been shown by multiple companies, but TI emphasizes its flexibility.
2. Ground Projection (Puddle Projector)
- TI supports auto-qualified DLP products for this application:
- 0.46-inch and 0.55-inch devices.
- “Q1” in the part number indicates automotive qualification.
- Demo concept:
- Uses a Bluetooth specification called Channel Sounding.
- When you approach your car:
- At a preset distance, the ground projector activates, displaying a welcome message or car logo.
- At a closer range, you can unlock the car door using Bluetooth.
- Why Channel Sounding?
- Offers customizable range settings.
- Alternatives like RFID or Ultra-Wideband exist, but:
- UWB is costly and power-hungry.
- Channel Sounding provides a clever, efficient solution for proximity-based interaction.
Summary: TI’s demos highlight practical uses of projection technology—from window displays for information to ground projection integrated with smart Bluetooth features for enhanced user experience.
