In his report for Insight Media at Display Week 2025, Chris Chinnock detailed the diverse microLED portfolio showcased at the TCL CSOT booth. The exhibition demonstrated the technology’s scalability, ranging from microscopic wearable displays to massive cinema-sized walls.
1. Transparent & Automotive Displays
- Transparent MicroLED: An 8.4-inch display featuring 60% transparency and 5,000 nits of brightness, built on an LTPS backplane.
- Panoramic HUD (PHUD): A 14.3-inch automotive unit with a resolution of 1700 x 650. While the transcript mentions a staggering 450,000 nits, industry specs suggest a peak of 45,000 nits. It supports a 120Hz refresh rate and a 0.2 mm pixel pitch.
2. Record-Breaking Miniaturization
- World’s Smallest Si-MicroLED: A 0.05-inch diagonal microdisplay intended for AR glasses.
- Extreme Density: It achieves 5,080 PPI with a brightness of 4 million nits.
- Efficiency: Despite its high output, it consumes only about 10 milliwatts, making it ideal for compact, battery-dependent wearables.
3. Large-Scale Modular Wall
- The 219-inch Monster: An ultra-wide 36:9 aspect ratio display with a 5K resolution (5760 x 1440).
- Technical Build: Unlike the smaller panels on LTPS, this uses a PCB backplane with a passive drive system.
- Tiling: The wall is composed of 288 individual tiles, each roughly 8.89 inches, allowing for seamless scalability for commercial and signage applications.
