PlayNitride says they have a strong focus on developing microLED displays for the AR glasses market. At Display Week, they showed a 0.18-inch full-color panel with 500,000 nits of luminance. And about 1000 nit after transmission through the waveguide. Resolution is 720 x 720 with a 5644 PPI and power consumption of less than 150 mW. They optical engine comes in a 0.4 cc and they integrated it into a waveguide with a 30-degree FOV. PlayNitride says that by the end of 2026, this engine size will shrink to only 0.1 cc.

Full color is obtained with red and green quantum dots patterned over the blue LED array. The company admitted they continue to improve the reliability, which was not specified. One concern with QD deposition is adding enough material to get good absorption and therefore a good color gamut without creating sub-pixel structures with high aspect ratios. PlayNitride did not detail this nor how they fabricate the QD layers, but they did say the panel can reach over 90% of the DCI-P3 gamut, which is quite acceptable.
The also showed a 0.49-inch full-color microLED display integrated into a birdbath type MR headset.
