BOE showed several microLED-based products in its booth. First a large 240-inch videowall welcomed visitors to their booth. Called a Blue Whale display, it is 5110 x 2160 resolution, 600/3000 nits (typ/max) composed of a number of 23-inch tiles. Specifications include:
- 23-inch, COG ultra slim display with HDR support; LTPS backplane and seamless splicing, 600×500 resolution, amplitude driving now, but considering adding PWM driving later, repair procedure under development now
Chip on Glass (COG) assembly is needed to move to pixel pitches below about 0.6 or 0.5 mm. Above that, Chip on Board (COB) is adequate. BOE plans to begin mass production in 2026, but the display will carry a 30-50% premium over COB options.
Another concept display featured the tiling of two 9.1-inch transparent microLED displays intended for an automotive application. Specifications include:
- 16.5-inch, 640×180, 7000 nit, COG, high transmittance (>70%) with a pitch of 0.63mm, contrast >1.5M:1
Lifetime for such a bright display remains a concern. Such displays are not expected to be in cars until the 2031-3032 model year and only in Luxury brands to start.

In paper 97-1, BOE described some of the engineering develops they have done to improve the performance and transmissivity of the 9.1-inch transparent microLED displays with an LTPS backplane. Accomplishments detailed included:
- 12% efficiency improvement with optimization of device structure. EQE for RGB now at 20%/40%/45% @ 5A/cm2
- Wafer particle defects are low with 6-inch wafer yields of more than 99.99% with wavelength uniformity of 1nm
- Replace Al with Cu backplane metal for fewer masks (from 10 to 5), better uniformity (>90%) with less thermal heating at high luminance and a brighter image
- Randomized wiring design reduces reflection and diffraction degradations
BOE also shared their microLED development roadmap for automotive as shown in the figure below. The Gen 3 PHUD was not shown at Display Week, but the transparent display was. BOE also said they plan to show a wearable microLED product in about 2 months.
