BOE Varitronics Shows Full Range of Automotive Displays

BOE Varitronics automotive display showcase at CES 2026:

  • Introduction: Chris Chinnock and Tom introduce the BOE Varitronics booth and its focus on the latest automotive display technologies.
  • UB Cell (Ultra Black): This technology significantly improves display performance for automotive use, increasing contrast from 1,500 to 2,500 and raising NTSC from 87% to 95%. It also reduces reflection from 1.8% to 1.1%.
  • Under-Display Camera: Designed for Driver Monitoring Systems (DMS), this system uses special optics and a light guide to hide the camera from view. The light guide uses a special film that allows infrared (IR) light to pass through the TFT pattern to capture images without being visible to the driver.
  • Skyline Display: This setup features two 24-inch, 5K resolution displays with local dimming backlights. It is named for its long aspect ratio and can be cold-formed into a curved shape when using OLED panels.
  • Micro LED Technologies:
    • A Smart Surface concept featuring a high-brightness Micro LED panel with approximately 20-23% transmissivity, balanced to maintain low reflectance.
    • A monochromatic Head-Up Display (HUD) capable of reaching an extremely high brightness of 300,000 nits.
  • Live View Display: A 56-inch virtual screen that uses an eye-tracking system and adjustable focal length to make images appear at a comfortable distance of three meters.
  • Smart Swing Parts: Mechanical components that allow vehicle screens to move and adjust with 0.5-degree accuracy to accommodate different driver heights and preferences.
  • 3D Display Systems:
    • A P-Spectra system with eye-tracking that allows for seamless switching between 2D and 3D modes with minimal resolution loss.
    • A 12.7-inch 10K resolution panel utilizing a traditional macro-lenticular lens for a high-fidelity 3D effect.
  • X-Holo Holographic Image: Creates a floating image paired with infrared sensors to enable “hovering touch” controls without physical contact.
  • Segmented Smart Surface: A lower-cost alternative to TFT, using segmented LED displays with color painting to create hidden-until-lit controls on various surfaces.
  • Other Innovations:
    • OLED with Integrated Fingerprint Sensing: Aimed at replacing physical car keys with secure biometric entry on the door.
    • Smart Dimming Glass: An LCD-based glass divided into 12 segments that can be individually cleared or dimmed.
    • Rollable OLED: A flexible display showcased in a unique aspect ratio specifically for automotive interiors.
