On the heels of a very strong market presence of stereoscopic 3D movies and sport events presented in movie theaters today, the digital signage world is looking at 3D autostereoscopic displays as the next step in capturing the attention of potential customers.

With the recent developments in 3D autostereoscopic display technology, Insight Media prepared the 2009 Autostereoscopic 3D Displays in Signage and Professional Applications Report, a comprehensive report analyzing the market opportunities of 3D technology for a multitude of market segments.

While the digital signage world has shown significant growth over the past few years, the application of 3D autostereoscopic displays in this field is still in its infancy. Insight Media explains the technology and identifies its strong and weak points for this application space. This covers all aspects from content creation and production to distribution and player software.

For the market forecast we defined 20 possible venues that could use this new technology in some form and created an adjusted total available market (ATAM) figure. This includes the effects of the expected cost differential to 2D digital signage solutions as well as the number of 3D displays per venue.
