RCA Debuts New Brand and Flagship LCOS HDTV
Thomsom Multimedia unveiled a new product marketing strategy for its digital TV products in the U.S.  Currently, products
are marketed under the RCA, GE and ProScan brands.  Going forward, the ProScan brand will be discontinued and replaced
with the high-end RCA Scenium brand.  The Scenium name is already established in Europe where it is identified as a premium brand product. 

JVC Ships 61-inch D’Ahlia HDTV
In mid-July, JVC said it started shipments of its long overdue D’Ahlia HDTV rear-projection television set.  The wide-aspect 
61-inch D’Ahlia (model AV-61S902) has a suggested list price of $12,995, a price much higher than officials were stating
just six months ago.  The company says selected dealers plan to sell 800 -1000 sets in North America in 2001, but JVC is 
unsure of its plans for 2002. 

eMagin Shows SVGA+ Microdisplay
eMagin Corporatio used SID to showcase its new SVGA+ OLED-on-Silicon microdisplay.  This panel is 0.62 inches in diagonal
and contains 852 x 600 pixels making it suitable for SVGA data display or wide-aspect 852 x 480 DVD video display.  Integration 
Of the panel into several prototype near-to-eye viewing systems were demonstrated in the company’s booth.

Zight Debuts New Name and Improved Panels
Colorado MicroDisplay has changed its name to Zight Corporation.  The change was done to emphasize the “vision” the company
has shown in the microdisplay field and to move away from the geographic-specific nature of the previous name.

Displaytech Improves Displays
Ferroelectric Liquid Crystal (FLC) microdisplay manufacturer, Displaytech reports that they have reached an important 
manufacturing milestone.  In the last six months, production from both the Longmont facility and from partner Miyota, has
resulted in the shipment of 500K LCOS panels.  Most are smaller resolution models for viewfinder applications, but some are 
for Samsung Electronics’  HDTVs, which is due to finally ship this August.
   
inViso Snags Headset Customer
Near-to-eye panel and system developer inViso and monitor and projector maker Delta Electronics, Inc.  signed a development
agreement.  Apparently, Delta intends to build binocular headsets based upon inViso’s OptiScape 2420 engine design.
The design, marketed by inViso as the eShades, features twin SVGA resolution LCOS panels, a proprietary optical design, 
and a compact electronics chassis.

New OLED-on-Silicon Contender Emerges
In the OLED-on-Silicon technology camp, eMagin has been the dominant company.  Now, a new company, MicroEmissive 
Displays, has entered the arena.  Both are looking to develop high-resolution microdisplays suitable for a number of near-to-eye applications.

Kopin to Increase Production
Hideki Tomine, Kopin Corporation’s Assistant VP, used the SID Microdisplay Roundtable to note that the company started 
production of their transmissive LCOS panels in the spring of 1999 and have so far shipped 2M units to leading camcorder
manufacturers such as Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Inc. (Panasonic), Samsung Electronics and Victor Company of Japan, 
Ltd. (JVC).


APPLICATIONS

Bring-to-the-Eye - Zight has announced a design win with Carl Zeiss to supply full-color SVGA displays. Also covered 
here are: Olympus Optical Ltd., Sanyo, Minolta Corporation, eMagin, Navitrak International,  Raytheon, Kopin, NYTECH,
Saab Technologies, Interactive Imaging Systems, Betacom Corporation, Hitachi and Xybernaut.
   
Headsets - i-O Display Systems, subsidiary of LC research company Ilixco, showcased its new i-glasses SVGA headset 
at SID.  It offers 24-bit color, a 26-degree diagonal FOV, and an optional stereoscopic feature. We will also  bring you news from
Zight, Genesis, Canon, eMagin, Virtual Vision, Liteye, Kopin, Kaiser Electronics, Oriscape Electronics, Access, Microsoft,
