The Need:

The picoprojector market is a very new market, with the first products introduced at retail mid-year 2008. As such, the market for these projectors is poorly understood, both in terms of who the picoprojector user is and what he will use his picoprojector for. In the past, this information has been supplied by anecdotal stories, speculation on the part of picoprojector manufacturers and speculation on the part of market analysts, such as the ones at Insight Media.
Now that there is actual product in the hands of end users, Insight Media thought it was appropriate to add actual data to the speculation and anecdotes.

About the Authors:

The principal author of the 2009 Picoprojector Survey Report is Matthew Brennesholtz. Matthew Brennesholtz has worked in the display field since receiving his Masters of Engineering degree from Cornell University in 1978. He has worked on direct view CRT systems and projection systems based on CRTs, oil-film light valves, DMDs, LCDs and LCoS. In addition to system level work, he was involved in the design and testing of optical components for these systems. Currently he is at Insight Media providing consulting and other services to the display industry. He is also the lead author of the book Projection Displays, 2nd Edition, published in 2008 by John Wiley and Sons.
