DreamVision DLP Projector is not a UFO :-)

02.11.2003

At CES 2000 DreamVision (Paris, France) (www.dreamvision.net) demonstrated their new DLP home theater projector. The "DreamWeaver" is available this March and what is most notable is the circular-shaped housing, reminiscent of a UFO. This shape incorporates expanded fan vents that are supposed to help reduce noise.

The novel projector uses TI's HD2 Mustang chip with 1280 x 720 resolution and it gets 1500:1 contrast at 1100 lumens from a 200W UHP lamp. The Carl Zeiss-designed light engine includes a six-segment color wheel turning at 9,000rps to minimize color break-up. DCDi by Faroudja provides top-quality deinterlacing and image enhancement.

The projector is described as very quiet with a noise spec of 32dB. A company spokesperson also emphasized how no stray light leaves the unit, fostering a dark environment for maximizing screen contrast.

The Dream Weaver also boasts a unique cable management system that allows cables leading to the projector to be easily hidden, whether the unit is mounted from a tabletop or a ceiling.

DreamWeaver - WXGA, 1100 lumens, 1500:1, DLP, $10,995 MSRP
