April Projection
Monthly Summary
Our April issue of Projection Monthly is now
in the hands of our subscribers, and the 111 pages this month include
highlights from three display industry events that took place in March:
The USDC / Needham Investors Conference held in NY, the ShoWest national
theater owners conference and expo in Las Vegas, and the HDTV Summit
held in Washington DC. We combed the show floors, sat in the sessions
and wrote up the reports on what we found.

InFocus Adapting to
Industry Changes
InFocus Corporation (Wilsonville, OR) used
its time slot at the conference to update investors on its recently
released earnings. The company is in a tough spot as it is a "pure
play" in the projection industry, but, as a public company, is
measured on a quarterly basis by its performance. As the projection
industry undergoes tremendous transformation, it is difficult to always
stay ahead of changes, as InFocus has found out. Despite some bumps
in its performance, we continue to be impressed with the company's leadership
and moves to stay one step ahead. [Full

USDC-Needham Investor's Conference
IDC analyst Bob O'Donnell kicked off the tenth annual USDC Needham Investor's
Conference on March 15th in New York City, with a keynote address that
highlighted the results of a consumer survey the company conducted recently.
Not surprisingly, the survey revealed a lot of confusion among consumers..

ShoWest Report
In early March Insight Media Analyst, Steve Sechrist
attended the ShoWest cinema trade show in Las Vegas. While the focus
of this conference in the past has been on projection systems and upcoming
films, this years' event marks a shift in emphasis. While plenty of

Projection Summit to Focus on Competitive Strategies
InfoComm 05 Features PS'05 for Fourth Year in Las Vegas June
6-7
The time has come for all the players in
the professional audiovisual market, generally, and for projection
system suppliers, specifically, to be sure their strategies will help
them weather the increasingly competitive environment for big-screen
displays. Three major forces are making profits more difficult to
come by:
- The emergence of the low-cost education projector
market, the success of the IT channel, and the maturing of the mainstream
enterprise front projector market have all led to the commodity-like
status of projectors, stagnant revenues, and extreme price pressures.
- Falling prices for big flat-panel displays have
dramatically increased competition in other ProAV markets where
projectors have historically dominated.
- While the recent successes in home rear-projection
televisions have been a bright light for the projection industry,
flat-panel makers predict that they will reverse the gains over
the next few years as their new big-screen fabs come onstream. [Full
