S-3D Game Testing Report Reveals Gameplay Insights

Insight Media has released the 2009 Stereoscopic 3D Gameplay Evaluation Report: An assessment of the performance and usability of 3D games on 3D monitors. The report addresses some of the most obvious questions facing those engaged in the stereoscopic 3D gaming market.

o Do 3D games offer compelling gameplay?

o Does it create an immersive and superior environment?

o Can you play games for hours at a time?

o What impact does the hardware have on gameplay?

o What impact do the drivers have on gameplay?

o Are all 3D monitors the same?

To answer these questions, we took the point of view of a gamer. We optimized and evaluated 24 different games covering all genres, and tested them on three different types of monitors (the Hyundai x-pol type, Samsung shutter glass type and iZ3D two-panel type). Data and conclusions, for each game with each monitor, are provided in the report.

“I was a little skeptical that the 3D gameplay would be compelling when we first started this project,” noted lead analyst, Dale Maunu. “But I can now say it is indeed a compelling experience, but the results will be quite variable depending on set up, drivers and display system – even for the same game.”

The 2009 Stereoscopic 3D Gameplay Evaluation Report is available now as a PDF file for customer site license for $1000. If the purchaser later buys the full 2009 Stereoscopic 3D Gaming Technology and Market Report (after its release in mid-September), $750 of this purchase will be credited to the purchase of the full report. This more comprehensive report, covering PC- and console-based games, will provide many more details on game development, attitudes of game developers and publishers, 3D display technology and industry players.
